Why go Greek?
|
|
Many students come to campus with pre-conceived notions of what Greek life is like. Some people will say that they definitely want to join a fraternity, while others are sure that they are not going to join. Despite these notions, fraternities have a lot to offer that many don't even realize. Being a fraternity provides opportunities for social events, philanthropy opportunities, sports teams, and more.
Being in a fraternity also provides you with a community within the larger community. You will have a connection with your brothers, and have opportunities to meet people from the other fraternities and sororities on campus. You have the potential to form lifelong friendships, and memories. You are also immediately put in contact with a network of alumni, giving you access to all sorts of opportunities in the business world.
Being in a fraternity may also give you a step up for the future. Whether it is the leadership experience they gain, or the connections made for the future, there are Greeks in prominent positions in politics, entertainment, business, sports, and more. Here are just a few facts about fraternity men:
-
71% of those listed in "Who's Who in America " belong to a fraternity.
-
Of the nation's 50 largest corporations, 43 are headed by fraternity men.
-
85% of the Fortune 500 executives belong to a fraternity.
-
40 of 47 U.S. Supreme Court Justices since 1910 were fraternity men.
-
76% of all Congressmen and Senators belong to a fraternity.
-
Every U.S. President and Vice President, except two in each office, born since the first social fraternity was founded in 1825 has been members of a fraternity.
-
2% of the male population in America is fraternity men.
-
Statistics show that fraternity members have a higher rate of graduation from college than do their non-member counterparts.
-
As of Fall '07 the All Fraternity average GPA was 3.09 while the All Non Greek Men average GPA was 3.02!

Why join SigEp?
|
|
While we would like to believe the reason to join our fraternity is simply because of the current members in it, there are, however, other reasons. Beginning with pledging, Sigma Phi Epsilon teaches you skills that enable you to become a leader in many aspects of life. Immediately after joining our chapter, you will begin your journey through the different stages of our Brotherhood Development system; pledging, sophomore, junior, senior, and alumni. At each stage, you will participate in activities that prepare you for your career. You will be able to take advantage of many opportunities that allow you to seek scholarships, recognition throughout the community, and the ability to build up your resume.

A Letter from the VP Recruitment
|
|
Incoming students,
First, let me congratulate you for choosing the University of South Carolina. Secondly, as Rush Chairmen for SigEp, I am glad that you have shown interest in participating in Greek Life here at USC. One of the best ways to take full advantage as your years of undergraduate studies is to partake in Greek activities. Fraternities and sororities make up for 18% of the student population at USC's campus and has an immense impact on the university in many ways.
Here at SigEp, our goal is to develop balance leaders for the future. By pledging SigEp, you will find your transition from high school to college life much easier. Our fraternity excels in many aspects including academics, athletics, and social life. As a chapter, we have a collective GPA of 3.116, although a GPA of at least 2.6 is required to stay active. Our chapter is composed of many athletic brothers, who have been declared intramural champions 8 out-of the last 11 years. There are many benefits of joining our brotherhood, and hopefully you will have a chance to take part in it.
Most importantly, Sigma Phi Epsilon prides itself upon the bonding and unification of people who shae common interests. It is, through this, we build friendships that will last a lifetime, while developing you to reach your full potential as both a contributing member to society and as a SigEp. I hope you take the time to stop by our house and meet some of the brothers who are so eagerly waiting to meet you.
Sincerely, Charles Ellis
